The Journey to Success

Sterling: You do motivational speaking, coaching, podcast hosting. Tell us about your background and how you became a corporate speaker.

Monica: My journey happened organically. I was a teacher but quickly realized the classroom wasn’t the best fit for me due to my ADHD. I then moved into building educational programs and played professional football. These experiences, especially in football, taught me leadership and teamwork, which translated well into motivational speaking.

Challenges and Strategies in Leadership

Sterling: What are some of the biggest challenges facing athletes, educators, and corporate leaders today?

Monica: One of the biggest challenges is realizing that people bring their whole selves to work. Leaders need to understand that employees can’t just leave their personal problems at the door. Embracing the totality mindset—taking care of the employee from beginning to end—leads to a more dedicated and productive workforce.

Sterling: You mentioned the importance of social media in today’s corporate environment. How do you balance your online presence with your personal and professional life?

Monica: It’s a struggle. I believe in authenticity and showing up as your true self both online and offline. For me, it’s about consistency in messaging and being genuine. I also surround myself with a supportive network that helps me manage my time and stay grounded.

Building Sustainable Success

Sterling:

How do you help companies and individuals sustain the positive changes from your workshops?

Monica: I follow up with clients through videos, continuous learning methods, and regular check-ins. I aim to embed myself into the company culture to ensure a lasting impact. Intentional follow-up and concrete action steps are crucial for maintaining momentum and achieving long-term goals.

Sterling:

You’ve talked about the importance of relationships in your career. Can you expand on that?

Monica: Absolutely. Building genuine relationships is key. Every speaking gig I’ve gotten has come through referrals from people I’ve built strong connections with. Being kind, helpful, and supportive to others creates a network that reciprocates and supports you in return.
