Creating a Supportive and Empowering Environment

One of the first topics we explored was how Tynika creates a supportive and empowering environment for women new to fitness.

“Someone just starting their fitness journey needs a community,” Tynika said. “When I began my fitness journey, having support was invaluable, so I made it a core business value. I host out-of-gym community events like bowling or hiking to build bonds among my clients. This camaraderie helps everyone push each other, not just me as their trainer.”

Building Discipline and Good Habits

Beyond fitness, Tynika emphasizes the importance of developing habits that can extend to other areas of life. When asked about how she instills lasting confidence in her clients, she explained:

“Creating discipline and good habits are lessons that extend beyond the gym. Fitness goals require daily efforts; creating those habits also helps outside the gym. Patience is also crucial; setting small, tangible goals leads to sustainable success.”

Tynika also cautioned against unrealistic goals, suggesting that starting small and building momentum is key to long-term success.

The Importance of Community and Small Steps

Sterling McKinley, host of “In The Black,” noted the surge in gym memberships every January, only to see most give up by mid-month. Tynika believes this happens because people often lack a supportive community.

She explained, “We need a support system to encourage us.” She also affirms the role of the community in achieving fitness goals.

Making Time for Fitness

Tynika particularly resonates with busy women and entrepreneurs. She understands the challenges of juggling multiple responsibilities and believes that finding time to work out is essential.

“It’s not about finding the time but making the time. Prioritize yourself, even if it’s just 30 minutes a few days a week. Building habits with the time you have is crucial.”

Tynika recommends beginners start with three days a week, which she considers a sweet spot for consistency and recovery.

Success Stories from Impact Fitness

Transitioning from advice to real-world proof, Tynika shared several inspiring success stories from her clients. One standout is a mother of two who has managed a full-time job and grad school while achieving a remarkable physical transformation.

“Her biggest accomplishment is not just the physical change but maintaining consistent discipline. Another client, a former college athlete, has regained her consistency in training for the first time since college.”

These success stories highlight Tynika’s holistic approach, which focuses not just on physical transformation but also on creating lasting, positive changes in her clients’ lives.

Navigating Challenges as a Minority Woman in Fitness

Tynika also discussed the unique challenges she faces as a minority woman in the fitness industry, particularly with the influence of social media.

“We feel pressured to rely on physical appeal to attract clients, but knowledge and results matter more. I focus on expertise and the results I achieve with my clients.”Future Plans for Impact Fitness

Looking ahead, Tynika is expanding her services beyond individual fitness training. She recently launched corporate wellness programs, offering physical fitness classes, yoga, and other wellness resources to workplaces.

“We now offer these services virtually and in person, including support for DEI efforts in the workplace. It’s a big step forward, and I’m very excited.”

Advice to Her Younger Self

If she could advise her younger self, Tynika would emphasize confidence:

“Be more confident in what you do and know. Fitness has given me confidence outside the gym, and I would tell my younger self not to doubt her abilities.”
